Here ye, here ye, Lord Football is back to take its place as King of the American Sports throne! Move over baseball,
the King is back. As Vince McMahon would say, “let’s get ready to ruuuuummmmble!”. For sports fans, this weeks is
like Thanksgiving and Christmas combined into one. The NFL is that five course meal that you just can’t resist eating.
As you know, every year I do a predictions contest. Since the NFL is the hardest sports league to predict (and thus,
I would say the most fun), I’m usually wrong about at least some of my picks by Week 3. But I do it just for fun. Last year,
my Super Bowl picks didn’t even make the playoffs (New England and Dallas). This year?
Well, I’m going with the Patriots to win it again. If Tom Brady is healthy (a big if), I think they are the team to beat. Remember, Brady has lost one game since December 2006. He and the Pats, coached by Bill Belichick, have won 3 Super Bowls and appeared in 4. They have won at least 11 games in 7 out of the last 8 seasons.
Furthermore, they have an extra incentive this year. In January 2008, they lost to the Giants in one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. Later in September, they lost Tom Brady to a season ending injury in the first game of the year.
So the Patriots, with a healthy Brady for 16 games, are a scary team for the rest of the NFL. Who are they playing in Super Bowl XLIV? I’m going with Chicago. No, not only because I have family that now lives there. They also have a lights out defense. Now, on to the rest of the predictions.
